Who We Are

Book Aid Asia is a non-profit organisation focused on one simple but essential belief: children need access to books to learn, grow, and thrive. In a world that is rapidly becoming more digital, we work with communities to ensure that children are not left behind at the most basic level of learning. Before technology, before advanced skills, before future careers, children need strong reading foundations. Books provide that foundation. We exist to make access to books possible where it is limited, overlooked, or taken for granted.

What We Believe

We believe that books are not outdated tools. They are one of the most reliable and effective ways for children to develop language, focus, imagination, and critical thinking. We believe that literacy is more than the ability to recognise words. It is the ability to understand, question, and make sense of the world. We believe that access to books should not depend on geography, income, or circumstance. And we believe that meaningful learning starts early, quietly, and consistently—often with a child and a book.

Why Our Work Matters Today

As conversations around artificial intelligence and digital education accelerate, learning inequality is also widening. Many children are surrounded by digital content but lack strong reading habits. Others have little access to either books or technology. Without literacy, digital tools do not empower. They overwhelm.

Our work focuses on strengthening the foundations that allow children to benefit from learning in any form—print or digital. By supporting access to appropriate and relevant reading materials, we help children build the confidence and skills they need for lifelong learning.

How We Work

We collaborate with schools, community groups, educators, and partners across Asia to support children’s access to books. Our approach is practical and grounded. We focus on real needs, local contexts, and sustainable impact. Rather than treating books as one-off donations, we see them as part of a learning ecosystem—something that must be accessible, usable, and meaningful to the children who receive them.

Our Focus

Our work centers on:

  • Improving access to books for children in underserved communities

  • Supporting reading spaces and learning environments

  • Encouraging reading habits that last beyond formal programmes

We priorities

  • quality over quantity,

  • relevance over volume,

  • and long-term learning over short-term outcomes.

Looking Ahead

The future of learning will involve technology, innovation, and new tools. But none of these will replace the need for strong literacy. Book Aid Asia will continue to focus on what matters at the beginning of every learning journey: access to books, opportunities to read, and the space for children to think, imagine, and grow.

That is our role. That is our commitment.
