Book Aid Asia emerged in 2016 from the dedicated personal vision of Abu Hassan Ahmad and Amelia Chik Abdullah, who sought to bridge the literacy gap for underprivileged youth in Malaysia. The foundation was built on the core principle that every child, regardless of geographic or financial boundaries, deserves the transformative power of literature and the opportunity to build a personal reading culture.

Operating as a grassroots movement, the founders personally financed and managed the collection and delivery of books to remote schools and low-income neighborhoods. These early efforts were vital in providing academic exposure beyond standard curricula, helping schools establish dedicated reading havens and interactive learning spaces that sparked intellectual curiosity outside the traditional classroom setting.

Understanding that literacy requires a multi-faceted approach, we launched the Book Advocacy for Children Achievement (BACA) programme. This initiative transitioned our work from simple distribution to active engagement, offering literacy workshops, reading advocacy, and English Language Appreciation Programmes designed to bolster communication skills and academic confidence in students. By 2023, our mission expanded further to include humanitarian welfare, providing essential food supplies and school kits to support the holistic well-being of the families we serve.

A pivotal moment in our journey arrived in March 2026, when Book Aid Asia was formally integrated into the Social Impact division of Honey Leisure & Corporate Travel Sdn Bhd. This strategic union significantly enhances our operational sustainability and enables us to scale our outreach with greater resources. Leveraging the corporate strength of Honey Leisure, we are now empowered to build wider partnerships and secure the vital funding needed to reach more communities across Malaysia and the broader Asian region.

Now operating as a key pillar of Honey Leisure & Corporate Travel Sdn Bhd’s social mission, Book Aid Asia remains steadfast in its goal to empower the next generation. Through our continued collaboration with educators, volunteers, and corporate allies, we strive to foster a world where knowledge and opportunity are accessible to every child, ensuring a lasting and compassionate social impact for years to come.
