Nurturing Minds, Crafting Futures
Book Advocacy for Children Achievement (BACA)
The diminishing interest in reading amongst modern students is a complex issue fuelled by the prevalence of short-form digital media, which emphasises instant gratification over the cognitive focus required for literacy. Many children from underprivileged backgrounds concurrently face restricted access to quality literature, widening the achievement gap. The BACA Programme was established to mitigate these challenges by reintroducing the wonder of discovery through books. Our mission is to transform students into lifelong learners and critical thinkers via the profound impact of literature and structured learning.
Objectives of the BACA Programme
The BACA Programme is designed to foster a sustainable reading culture and improve literacy standards through the following primary objectives:
- To foster a lasting appreciation for literary works amongst diverse student populations.
To guarantee the provision of premier pedagogical resources and literature to marginalised communities.
To improve academic literacy standards and interpretive competence through systematic intervention.
- To advocate the acquisition of advanced interpretive skills essential for academic success.
To establish optimal educational environments that inspire intellectual curiosity and development.
Our Program Model
The BACA Programme provides a modular framework designed for primary school students aged 10–12 and secondary school students aged 13–15 across three sessions:
Module 1: Advocacy Work
Awaken Cognitive Potential: Discover how reading serves as a fundamental pillar of growth. This keynote illustrates how literature bolsters the spirit, offering broad insights and guiding students towards roles as Malaysia’s future pioneers.
Module 2: Core Programme Streams
Literary Engagement for Primary School Students 10-12
- Interactive workshops tailored to promote linguistic enjoyment. Identifying nascent literary leaders within the classroom. Bolstering verbal communication and interpersonal confidence.
Aspiration Series for Secondary School Students 13-15
- Purpose-led seminars titled "I Have a Dream". Inspiring secondary school students aged 13–15 to define career paths.
Module 3: Formal Literary Donation
A strategic conclusion where institutional heads formalise reading goals. The ceremony involves the official handover of curated English titles from Book Aid Asia, signifying a collective commitment to enhancing communal knowledge and academic rigour.
The BACA Impact
Literacy represents more than a scholastic foundation; it is a crucial driver for empathy and professional progression. Through the BACA Programme, students gain more than basic reading skills—they develop the critical faculties necessary to thrive within a global landscape.
- Strengthens linguistic proficiency and vocabulary growth. Optimises cognitive performance and long-term knowledge retention. Promotes social awareness through diverse literary perspectives.
