On 30 August 2018, Book Aid Malaysia donated 50 English and Bahasa Malaysia storybooks to Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang Tiga as part of its ongoing effort to nurture reading habits among schoolchildren. The books were presented by Book Aid Malaysia founder Encik Abu Hassan Ahmad to the school’s headmistress, Puan Siti Lailatur, during a brief ceremony attended by teachers and students.
Speaking at the event, Encik Abu Hassan said the Book Aid initiative was established to encourage young children to develop a strong interest in reading from an early age. He expressed hope that the donated books would help students improve their language skills, broaden their knowledge, and build greater confidence in communication.
He also encouraged the school to participate in future educational programmes organised by Book Aid Malaysia, including the “English is Fun” initiative, which aims to strengthen students’ interest and proficiency in the English language through interactive activities.
Highlighting the importance of English proficiency, Encik Abu Hassan noted that many students face challenges in tertiary education due to weak command of the language. He stressed that mastering English early would better prepare students for higher education and future career opportunities.
The donation programme reflected Book Aid Malaysia’s continued commitment to supporting literacy development and educational enrichment among students, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.
